RMIT has been working with the Victorian Government and other Victorian Universities to develop a plan for the safe return of international students to Australia. We are pleased to announce that the International Students Arrival Plan has now been approved by the Victorian and Australian Governments bringing us one step closer to safely welcoming our students who are overseas back to campus.

In Phase 1 (pilot phase) of the International Student Arrivals Plan, a small number of international students and research candidates will be permitted to return to Victoria before numbers are incrementally increased in 2022. At this stage, we expect that some international students will commence returning to Victoria before the end of 2021 as part of Phase 1.

Who is eligible?

Students who must undertake face-to-face learning or practical work to progress or complete their studies will be prioritised to return first. This includes final-year health and medical students and postgraduate research students and candidates.

Initially a small number of students will be able to return as part of  Phase 1 and RMIT will pay for the quarantine costs on behalf of any RMIT international students who return to Victoria in Phase 1 of the International Students Arrivals Plan. To be eligible to return to Victoria, students must satisfy and agree to some requirements:

Students will need a valid Australian Student Visa.

Students will need to return a negative COVID-19 test pre-departure.

For now, the pilot plan strongly encourages students to be fully vaccinated before travel. Once in Victoria, students will need to meet RMIT’s COVIDSafe requirements to access campus.

Students will need to undertake mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Shortly we will be contacting International students who are based outside of Australia with detailed information on how they can register an Expression of Interest (EOI form) in returning to Victoria. Students should complete their EOI even if they are not in the cohort that has been prioritised to return in Phase 1.
