Only 11.2 percent of people regard China's education entrance system as fair according to a poll with 56.5 percent saying the situation was becoming more unfair, China Youth Daily reported Tuesday.
The survey of 2,952 people was conducted by the Social Survey Center of the China Youth Daily through 30 provinces and cities.
The expense of choosing schools, high university tuition fees and extra points for certain groups at college entrance examinations are among the worst problems according to the poll.
In July this year, nineteen students from Shaoxing No. 1 middle school of Zhejiang province gained extra points at the college entrance examination due to "excellent performance at making navigation models." It has since been discovered that 13 students were connected to local officials while six other parents were local teachers.
Another scandal caused by the extra point's policy happened in Chongqing municipality earlier this year. 31 students faked their ethnicity to get extra points for the college entrance examination. Students from ethnic minorities gain extra privileges for entering college.
"The extra point policy means well but it always used by the people with money and power," said one respondent to the questionnaire.
76 percent voted it would be better to cancel the preference policies to make the college entrance examination clean and fair, the report said.
