The survivor of a knife attack in Box Hill last week which left another teenager dead has had his name suppressed in court after he received death threats.
Magistrate Donna Bakos suppressed the 19-year-old's name as accused man Jie Zhu was remanded to appear in court on April 9.
Mr Zhu of Doncaster is charged with murdering 17-year-old Yan Yu and attempting to murder the unnamed 19-year-old.
He also faces two charges of intentionally causing serious injury.
Mr Zhu, unshaven and wearing a grey tracksuit, is accused of killing Mr Yu outside a Box Hill service station.
Prosecutor Caroline Boult said the surviving victim of the attack had requested his name be suppressed from court charge sheets after he received a number of death threats.
Ms Bakos granted the order.
Mr Zhu, 21, surrendered himself to police at his local police station about 10pm yesterday, five days after Springvale student Yan Yu, 17, was fatally stabbed outside a service station after a night out with friends.
Mr Yu, also knows as Ricky, was rushed to Box Hill Hospital where he died.
Mr Zhu surrendered after police made repeated requests for the Chinese-born man to contact them.
Homicide detectives today charged him with one count of murder and one of attempted murder.
He is appeared at Melbourne Magistrates Court this morning.
Police have interviewed but not charged another two men and a woman, all in their early 20s, over the stabbing.
