　　GRE的verbal比较差，所以在admission committee screening这个阶段被Northwestern, UNC, UTSW 甚至Duke据也在情理之中。口语是点弱，没有好好准备，但是似乎影响不大。其实个人口语还算流利，毕竟从本科就开始用英语学，所以在interview中交流没有问题。H，S和R校的申请纯粹是give a try而已。

　　想申请dream school JHU的neuro,但是可能不和我的背景match。因为在北美，所以有on-campus interview@BCM and Cornell.这里就介绍一下on campus visit的情况。

　　BCM的DB program非常不错，强烈推荐。Program director 十分重视graduate student training, 他基本上搜刮了BCM最好的faculty进来(不过你也可以找其他的faculty,只要跟developmental biology有关系)，并且十分关心每个学生的progress, 会give suggestions about supervisor choice during lab rotation. 每年Interview 12~13个人，8～10 offer (不会扩招，想maintain good student to professor ratio),一半是international student offer (因为有private funding), 所以基本上去了就快有offer了。最unique的是他家的interview (first day) 和他们的annual retreat (second day and third day)合在一起，所有senior PhD students will present their works during the retreat.这是一个了解这个program research和graduate student performance的绝佳机会。我个人觉得很Impressive. 最后还发了student publication list， 有很多学生发了first-author的high profile journals.

　　这个program以前不招中国大陆学生，台湾学生倒有很多。3年前开始招人了，不过program director对中国大陆的推荐信不很信，他知道很多是学生写，教授签字罢了。所以reference letter最好让教授写。他似乎也不很重视GRE什么的(所以本人才有可趁之机)，更重视research。今年中国的只有我和一个UC Davis本科的中国大陆生。

　　个人觉得BCM,特别是这个program非常适合graduate student training (这里的lab大多graduate student：postdoc =1:1)，而harvard等superschool适合postdoc (postdoc-driven lab mainly, postdocs are dominant)

　　Weill Cornell的graduate program实际上是Cornell Medical School和Sloan Kettering Institute的joint program (不过也有几个Rockefeller的professor可选)。BCMB算是umbrella program,我主要看中他家的partner Sloan Kettering Institute (Cancer Biology Top Institute), interview见了几个new star和一个大牛.都非常不错。这个program, on campus interview around 45 (international student 用skype interview,我本来也要，不过争取之后，拿到on campus interview), offer 30～40 (they expect ~20 will accept offers) (就offer/interview rate上而言，BCM和Cornell很像,基本来面试都有offer, 不过其他学校如JHU BCMB的offer rate 相当低).BCMB算是招International student比较多的Program了. Weill Cornell本身的研究不是特别出色，偶有几个不错的professor，但是sloan kettering非常厉害，特别是在cancer, 不过他家的Neuro和epigenetics也有不错的提升，可选的几个rockefeller的professor主要做chromatin biology(cell division和chromatin remodeling/epigenetic regulation),都非常不错。Sloan Kettering另一个不错的地方是他家的young faculty都有出色的research,所以如果喜欢junior faculty的话，Sloan kettering是不错选择。和DB@BCM相似，可选非BCMB的faculty做thesis research, 同样flexible. 不过比较遗憾的是他家在interview 之后的research presentation (both oral and poster)不是很attractive,主要是我感兴趣的lab都没有来present的说。另外, Weill Cornell，Sloan kettering和rockefeller三家在一个地方(manhattan island)，加上columbia也在NYC，所以research atmosphere不错。这一点上BCM也类似，旁边有MD anderson medical center, other institutes in Texas Medical Center, and Rice University..

　　P.S.如果想进Cornell (in general)或Sloan Kettering, 申请Weill Cornell相对比较容易，cornell main campus G&D和BMCB我都不太喜欢，而且难进。Sloan kettering自己的graduate program每年只收10个，国际学生稀少

　　基本上就这些insider info了。大家挑着有用的看吧。至于选哪个学校，我觉得应该选一个有较多你愿意工作的lab的那个的说。否则只是为了学校名气或是一个大牛而进去，会后悔的(因为如果只有一两个lab你愿意进，那么在做rotation时，不match或是老板不要人就完了)。
