Dean's scholarships awarded
Due to the unprecedented high standard of applicants, James Cook University's Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts has awarded five Dean's Scholarships this year: two to Townsville students and three to Cairns.
The scholarships were presented to the Cairns students at a special ceremony recently.
Ashleigh Lawrence and Lisa Mannering were honoured with Dean's Scholarships, each worth $5000, and the inaugural Academic Encouragement Award was presented to Stacey Colls.
Ms Lawrence went to Bentley Park College, Ms Mannering to Smithfield State High School and Ms Colls to Cairns State High School.
All recipients are first year students currently enrolled and studying for Bachelor of Laws/Business or Bachelor of Laws/Commerce.
Faculty of Law, Business and Creative Arts Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robin Woellner, said the students were worthy recipients.
"These young women are very deserving winners, having graduated from secondary school with outstanding results," he said. "They have approached university study with a mature attitude and dedication allowing them to achieve excellent results so far this year."
