詹姆斯库克大学的新生可以在正式开课之前，提前学习一种过渡课程，做好进入大学的准备。

　　这种过渡课程(Unistart)为期五天，帮助学生将以前的学习和大学课程衔接起来。尤其是对于以前学习时间少的学生帮助很大。

　　大学的课程指导Kylie Bartlett说：“过渡课程使攻读学位的学生增强信心。”

　　New students at James Cook University can make an early start to their academic studies with a transition course to help them prepare for tertiary study.

　　Unistart is a five-day program to help students with the transition to university. It is particularly recommended for students who have not studied for some time.

　　"Unistart makes starting a degree a lot less daunting," said JCU Learning Adviser Kylie Bartlett.

　　"University can be a confusing maze for new students, particularly for those who have spent a few years out of the education system, and might be feeling anxious about returning to the classroom," Mrs Bartlett said.

　　"These courses are presented by outstanding students who want to pass on the tips and advice they wished they had been given at the beginning of their own university studies."

　　As well as an introduction to the practicalities of university life and the services available, participants also get a student's point of view of issues such as balancing work, study and family life.

　　"We find that students who complete these programs tend to do very well, because they start the year with a ready-made support network, and they know where to go for help when they need it," Mrs Bartlett said.
