Randy Adams, a University of Kansas theatre alumnus, took home a Tony Award for producing the hit musical “Memphis,” which was named best musical for 2010.
The 2010 Tony Awards, broadcast live on CBS, were held June 13 at Radio City Music Hall. Adams made the acceptance remarks for the “Memphis” cast and creative team.
Adams, who received a master’s degree from KU in 1980, and his partners, Sue Frost and Kenny Alhadeff, are the managers of Junkyard Dog Productions, which originated and produced “Memphis.”
Nominated for eight Tony Awards, “Memphis” took home four trophies including honors for Joe DiPietro for best book, and Daryl Waters and David Bryan for best orchestrations and best score.
While at KU, Adams directed a production of “The Little Foxes” in spring 1980. He is a member of the Department of Theatre’s Professional Advisory Board.
